🔱 Shiva Fasting & Ritual Guide (6 Min Read)

Pradosh Vrat Vidhi, Som & Shani Pradosh Katha, Puja Samagri & Muhurat Rules

Pradosh Vrat (प्रदोष व्रत) is a bi-monthly sacred fast observed on the 13th lunar day (Trayodashi Tithi) of both Shukla Paksha and Krishna Paksha in every Hindu month. Dedicated to Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati, this fast derives its name from Pradosh Kaal (प्रदोष काल)—the auspicious twilight period lasting approximately 1.5 hours around sunset when Lord Shiva performs the divine Ananda Tandava dance on Mount Kailash. Below is the complete guide covering Pradosh Kaal math, day-specific benefits, Puja Samagri checklist, authentic kathas, and fast-breaking rules.

🌌 Pradosh Kaal Calculation Math

Pradosh Kaal begins 45 minutes before sunset and extends until 45 minutes after sunset (total duration: ~90 minutes / 2 Ghatis).

  • Example Sunset 6:30 PM: Pradosh Kaal Puja Muhurat spans from 5:45 PM to 7:15 PM.
  • Trayodashi Requirement: Trayodashi Tithi must prevail during the evening Pradosh Kaal period for the fast to be observed on that day.

Comprehensive Devotional & Scriptural Context for Devotees

In Hindu Sanatana Dharma, preserving sacred traditions, accurate Panchang timing math, and reverent Puranic stories is a vital duty across generations. Whether practicing daily Sadhana at home, traveling on pilgrimage across sacred Dham shrines, or observing ancestral fasting rules, maintaining mental purity (Satva) and unshakeable faith (Shraddha) forms the cornerstone of spiritual growth.

Ancient Rishis designed sacred rituals and temple pilgrimages to harmonize human subtle energy centers (Chakras) with cosmic planetary vibrations. By engaging with authentic scriptural literature, practicing daily mantra chanting, and avoiding commercialized distractions, every practitioner can experience profound peace, divine grace, and spiritual elevation.

  • Mindful Devotion: Perform all morning and evening prayers with clear intention (Sankalp) and calm breath awareness.
  • Authentic Puranic Sources: Refer strictly to authentic Puranic scriptures like Shiva Purana, Padma Purana, and Devi Bhagavata Purana.
  • Offline Accessibility: Keep spiritual guides, mantras, and offline Panchang tools accessible on mobile devices for seamless daily practice anywhere.
